TEHRAN -- Looking at the black and white photos of Ebrahim Haqiqi, who is mostly known as a veteran graphic designer, visitors go on a “journey” to Iranian historical sites.

Graphic designer Ebrahim Haqiqi’s first photo exhibit “Journey” was inaugurated amidst the warm welcome of artists, cinematic figures and his students here on Friday at Tehran’s Dey Gallery.
“The photos in black and white are taken during the years 1962 to 1974 from different spots in villages and cities across the country. Some of these locations no longer exist or have changed greatly. They depict the architecture, cultural conditions, and lifestyles of people in those years,” he had remarked earlier.
Graphic designers Saed Meshki, Amrollah Farhadi, Majid Abbasi, Alireza Mostafazadeh, and Mohammad Ehsaii, artists and actors Niki Karimi, Ezzatollah Entezami, Pegah Ahangarani and Marzieh Borumand were seen among the guests at the opening ceremony.
“The photos on display in this exhibit are selected from the collection taken on my journeys during my studies. Several friends helped me choose these photos,” reads part of the brochure on the wall.
Dey Gallery director Feryal Salahshur is convinced that Haqiqi’s views of monuments and people are very good, “the photos are black and white and the contrast makes them quite attractive.
“When I first saw the photos, I was very surprised. I thought Haqiqi was a good graphic designer, but he has also captured some creative views in his photos, especially those shots from 40 years ago when he was so young,” she told the Persian service of MNA.
If an artist is successful in one field, he can also flourish in other fields, so it is not terribly surprising to see good photos taken by designer Haqiqi.
A collection of 50 photos are on show for ten days at the gallery located on 1st Naz Alley, 4th Tangestan, near Pasdaran Ave.
Born in 1949 in Tehran, Haqiqi received an MA in Architecture from the University of Tehran and began his career in 1970. He has won many awards in both Iranian and international competitions and has designed many posters including one for the commemoration ceremony for the 100th Anniversary of the birth of Nima Yushij. Also, he designed the Crystal Simorgh, the trophy awarded to the winner of Iran’s Fajr International Film Festival.
